2025 Cadet / Contract Administrator

The 2025 program has a fresh update with the opportunity for Cadets & Contract Administrators to go to the UK to work with Wates for six months, while one person from Wates in the UK will come to Australia to work with Hutchies.

This is a unique opportunity for Hutchies' people who have completed their formal studies within the last four years and are working in a Cadet / Contract Administration role.

You can experience working with another family-owned construction company while living abroad in the UK and being just a jump away from hundreds of amazing European destinations.

The anticipated exchange period will be June 2025.

Minimum Tenure

Applicants must have been with the company for a minimum of 24 months by the time the placement commences.

Relevant Degree / Qualifications

Applicants must have completed their formal studies within the last four years (and prior to departure).

The degree should relevant to the discipline / role they work in.

Suitable Roles / Disciplines

The exchange program is currently open to anyone in a Cadet or Contract Administrator role.

Future Role Opportunities

Based on the success of the first exchange, we are exploring opportunities for the 2025 program, which will target tradespeople and site-based company members. Watch this space!

In addition to the Wates exchange program, we have now also partnered with Axiom Builders in Vancouver. In April 2025, Baxter Foreman from Mitch Grimmer’s team will head to Vancouver for 12 months on exchange, and we will host Connor from Axiom in return. Baxter was part of the final two shortlisted candidates for the Wates program.

Selection Process

If you are eligible, your application will proceed to the shortlisting process. Those who are shortlisted will proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

Notification

Once the shortlisting process is complete, shortlisted candidates will be notified of their selection. They will then be provided further instructions on how to complete the Full Application for Job Exchange Submission. This will require additional information about your qualifications, experiences, and motivations for participating in the program.

Timeline

We understand that you are eager to know the outcome of your application. We aim to notify Company Members who have submitted an EOI of their application status in late January 2025. However, please note that the exact date of notification may be subject to slight changes as we ensure a thorough evaluation of all applications.

Some of the world’s oldest and largest builders have united to create this unique global construction exchange program.​

Purpose

To contribute to the professional development of our people through emersion in alternative construction markets. Creating opportunity for exposure to innovative approaches within their discipline through an exchange program with like-minded builders in a contrasting region to their home ground. Whilst providing the company with exposure to alternative business models and construction process through visiting team members. It also aims to promote career pathways for the companies throughout a broader and more diverse community.

Benefits

The participants will gain new skills, perspectives, and an expanded network for personal and professional relationships. The organisation will benefit from more engaged and motivated people with different skills and new perspectives. Each will be able to bench mark their process alongside related entities in alternate markets with great transparency and built trust. Further expansion of the pool of available people is afforded through the broader network created.

Salary Structure

The individuals will be paid at their substantive level in their exchange location. Their years of service will continue to accrue during the period of job exchange. All leave requests should be discussed and agreed to by both partnering organisations.

Program Period

Exchange between individuals for a period of 6 months. Flexibility on duration may be agreed to suit individual circumstances.

Travel & Flights

The home employer will provide a return economy class airfare from the point of origin to their exchange location (England / Australia).

Accommodation

Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, including utilities, in the exchange location.

To assist with accommodation costs, a one-off travel allowance will be provided by the home employer prior to departure.

Local Laws

It is the individual’s responsibility to observe the local laws and customs of the nominated exchange location. Whilst their sponsoring host and home employer will make every reasonable effort to assist, the consequences of any breach of law or customs by the participate will be their responsibility.

Insurance

Participants are required to take our expatriate (or travel) insurance cover and provide evidence of coverage prior to departure.

The home employer will reimburse the reasonable costs associated with purchasing the expatriate insurance coverage.

Work Permit / Visa

Participants will travel on the Youth Mobility Scheme Visa to work for Wates in the UK. They must obtain the visa for the exchange location, and the offer of participation in the program is contingent upon successfully attaining the required documentation. The home employer will reimburse reasonable costs associated with obtaining the work visa.

Telephone & Internet

Participants are required to have their own mobile phone for communication purposes during the exchange program.

As per the individual host company's expectations.

Salary Reviews

Scheduled salary reviews will continue as scheduled by the individual’s home employer or as agreed between the parties.
